(Happy?) Mother’s Day 2.0

Like me, I’m sure many of you are disappointed not to be spending Mother’s Day with your parents. But the good news is that most of us with little ones are getting to spend LOTS of quality time with our children this year.

Just because we can’t celebrate this Sunday the same way we usually do, doesn’t mean we can’t find new ways to share love with our parents near and far.

Serve your parent a fancy meal

Sometimes the best gift is an act of service such as cooking their favorite meal. if you’re not quarantined with your parent or aren’t the best chef, order food from a local restaurant for delivery.

For overachievers who want to go the extra mile, why not choose a meal that nourishes everyone inside and out? Grilled salmon is a simple, yet delicious entree rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and zinc to help keep your skin moisturized and generate the growth of new skin cells. I usually serve salmon with a side of sweet potatoes (whole, mashed, etc.) because they’re versatile and rich in Beta-carotene which may help protect your skin from sun damage.

Dark chocolate is perfect for dessert because it’s decadent and nourishing—full of vitamins A, B1, C, D, and E, as well as iron, and calcium. It’s also an excellent source of antioxidants.

Let your loved one sleep in

Sometimes the best gift is an action…or inaction. Nothing says “I love you” like letting your parent get more beauty sleep. It’s true—skin generates new collagen (e.g. plumper skin & fewer wrinkles) while you rest. So save those early morning video calls with your parents for another day.

Pamper your parent

Of course I’m going to recommend makeup and skincare! They are my jam! If you’re unsure where to start, here are some of NorthStar’s favorites:

  • Spa Gift Card—Support a local business and give the gift of relaxation (once stay-at-home orders are lifted). As a mother of three, I will definitely need a professional massage when I can go out and about.

  • Skincare—This is hands down the most important part of any beauty routine. After all, your skin is on display 24/7! I recommend Embrolisse. Lait Crème Concentré which has a light, milky texture that absorbs easily into skin.

NorthStar has also been developing our own skincare line with our debut product, Polaris Cream, available for presale now. We put our industry expertise to use to create a custom K-beauty, water-based cream infused with CBD.

  • Lipstick—Most women can’t have enough lipstick, or may be ready to try something new like a matte lip. MAC’s Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo is a bold, statement lipstick that works well with most skin tones.

If you’re on a tight budget or are worried your gift won’t arrive in time, check out our blog for more at-home pampering tips to try with your parent in person or via a video chat. And remember—your mom will love anything as long as it comes from the heart!
