I love the changes in season. By the end of winter I feel so done! The holidays are over, the new year is in full swing, and I’m ready for a fresh start. As spring blooms, let’s add some beautiful color to our makeup routine as well. What better way to do this than by incorporating Pantone’s color of the year into your beauty routine? For over 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
This year the color is 19-4502 Classic Blue. Pantone describes Classic Blue as “a timeless and enduring blue hue . . . elegant in its simplicity . . . [s]uggestive of the sky at dusk . . . Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.”
Wow, Classic Blue seems to embody just what NorthStar Makeup is all about! Classic, elegant, tranquil and resilient. Pantone must have gotten inspired from our NorthStars! So how the heck do you wear classic blue on your face without looking like you just went back in time to 1984?
For starters, try a classic blue eyeshadow. Yes, there are ways to use blue eyeshadow without dating your makeup look. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Quad Eyeshadow palette 3 is GORGEOUS! What I love with this palette is that it is a cream to powder. That means you won’t have crazy blue fallout underneath your eyes.
No need to enhance your dark circles (can I get an amen?). That’s for a different blog post later on. You can create a beautiful smoky eye using just this quad. If the smoky eye isn’t for you and you prefer a one sweep across your eyelid, then MAC’s Frost Eyeshadow in Triennial Wave is my go-to.
A light dusting over your entire eyelid, some black mascara, and you are all set.
Eyeliner is another fun way to add color to your look. When I’m running behind –
which is always since I have three kids under seven – I grab Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in chaos and call it a day.
Or, here’s a throwback for you: try colored mascara. Using classic blue mascara will add a touch of color to your face without being overwhelming. L’Oreal Voluminous has a great mascara in cobalt blue.
Lastly, if you are feeling saucy and want to be bold, why not wear a blue lip? Yes, I said it. You may not wear it to the office, although I would, but for a fun night out, why not? It’s just makeup; have fun with it! Anastasia Beverly Hills has a matte cobalt blue lipstick that is perfect.
